Federer Early Losses (before QF) since 2007:

2007: IW (1/32) to Canas; Miami (1/8) to Canas; Rome (1/8) to Volandri; Paris Masters (1/8) to Nalbandian.

2008: Dubai (1/16) to Murray; Toronto (1/16) to Simon; Cincinnati (1/8) to Karlovic.

2009: Monte Carlo (1/8) to Wawrinka; Paris Masters (1/16) to Benneteau.

2010: Indian Wells (1/16) to Baghdatis; Miami (1/8) to Berdych.

Out of the top of my head, from 2007 onwards, he’s been stretched to 5 sets in Slams by non-top 10 players 5 times: Tipsarevic (’08), Andreev (’08), Berdych (’09), Acasuso (’09), Haas (’09). I may be forgetting one or two, but w/e. Point being that he’s failed to reach the final of a Slam only once in this time period (AO ’08 – so 12/13).

I bet at the end of last year that RG ’10 or AO ’11 would be the first time he’d lose b4 SF at a Slam since the beginning of the Federer era. I think I was being TOO BOLD.

I wonder if it were up to Roger and Serena, they’d only play around 9 tournaments a year. Slams, a lead-in for each and the YEC. Maybe Basel for Roger and Miami for Serena to round it at 10.

OT, but I hope Ana/Kim doubles in Stuttgart rumor is true. yay
