FIFTH – pt1, hopefully

April 19, 2009

He seems to thrive on the drama. Last year’s Hamburg semi was closer, but the conditions favored Djokovic there. It was humid, the roof was closed and Hamburg’s clay had a lower bounce. But Monte Carlo’s Court Central is Chatrier’s closest relative.

This year’s ridiculous point. / Last year’s ridiculous point.

I love him. And that he’s the first to do a fifth in MC, and that there are no tapes on his knees, and his ability to win on will alone, and that he says “feeled” instead of “felt”, and his answer to the improvement on clay question, and “illusion”, and the yellow and green outfit, and his almost photographic point-by-point memory.

Ask me on a bad day and I’ll tell you that the tournaments leading up to RG are torture and if I had more willpower, I’d ignore them all until RG time. But then I’d miss victories like today’s.

The illusion thing beats everything for me. Don’t lose that, please.

Not his best match, ok, but he was great in crucial points.
